The chief negotiator of Montenegro for membership of the European Union, Mr. Aleksandar Pejović, in the framework of consultations for the composition of the negotiating team had a meeting with Velimir Mijušković, president of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro.
It was stressed out that negotiations belong to administrations where they are required but where apart from expertise and dedication there is a great need for the synergy of all processes, as well as publicity and communication of all participants. The subject of negotiations, particularly important for the economy, are transition periods.
On the grounds of the experience of the Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce on the involvement of industry in the negotiating processes through the two chambers, as well as through their own findings, the Chamber announced its readiness to participate actively in the work of negotiating structures.
Croatia and Slovenia's experiences in these processes show that representatives of Chambers were negotiators responsible for certain chapters relating to the economy. In Slovenia, it was related to: transport, energy, industrial policy, small and medium enterprises and telecommunications and information technology. Among the "economically sensitive" chapters of negotiations, in addition to mentioned ones, the representatives of the Slovenia Chamber were members of the negotiating teams for the following areas: Competition and State Aid, Free Movement of Goods, Persons, Services and Capital, Social Affairs and Employment, Agriculture, Regional Policy and Coordination of Structural Funds, Environment, Customs Union and Foreign Affairs, Consumer and Health Protection, Company Law.
In Croatia, their Chamber has been involved in the process of institutional negotiating, at the highest level. Two representatives of the Chamber were on responsible positions, heads of seven chapters. In addition, another 47 representatives of the Chamber are involved in this process, that is, 39 from professional services and 8 of them among businessmen, representatives of branch committees.
Mr. Pejovic expects that representatives of the Chamber will give their full support to the negotiation process, contribute to the realization of this complex and demanding job. Permanent communication is agreed in order for all the necessary representatives of industry to be adequately informed and involved.
The President of the Chamber shared his expectation that exactly representatives of companies participating in the bodies of the Chamber, having theoretical and practical knowledge and other competencies, should be represented in groups related to the field of activity they are engaged in. Also, experiences and information that the Chamber has based on the membership and involvement in the Association of European Chamber of Commerce (Eurochambres) recommends it for a partner in the negotiation process.
